Not such a Merry Christmas for Nintendo

Nintendo Christmas

Nintendo Christmas

Nintendo has in recent years taken a firm hold of the console wars and shot ahead thanks to the uniqueness of the Wii along with the Wii Remote.

All is not so well in Nintendo tower with net profit falling 9.4% between April and December 2009. Overall sales also fell by an even bigger 23% from 1.58tn yen to just 1.18tn yen. The main cause of this can be attributed to the recent price cuts on the Wii; done to mirror the price cuts seen on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Yuki Nakayasu (an analyst at UBS) adds…

“Nintendo had better come out with a new console or else it may lose its position…It will all depend on who comes out with a next-generation game console.”

You would have thought that Nintendo doesn’t really have much to worry about as the Wii; along with its many accessories and games, are still flying off the shelves.
