TIGA CEO Richard Wilson has hit back at claims by Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary that gaming is responsible for making children unfit.
Norman Lamb was quoted in the British Medical Journal as saying that “health consequences for the PlayStation generation could be disastrous.”
Richard Wilson of TIGA has since pointed out that games such as Wii Fit and Brain Training actually help to involve a child in exercise and stimulate the brain. He also pointed out:
“Almost 30,000 people work in the UK games industry, including over 9,000 in game development. UK game developers are typically intelligent, highly qualified and creative individuals who work to produce high quality games for people’s entertainment. Thousands of them are parents themselves. They are not interested in creating a generation of slouch potatoes.”
Wilson’s final comment promised to send a copy of TIGA’s 2009 report “Investing in the future”, which shows the benefits of video games.
I’m sure many children across the UK will be finding that Santa has left a Wii or DS game under the Christmas tree, so let’s see if this story takes any further turns after the festive period.

Hello, I totally agree with this comment! I’m a mother and I obviously get worried about my children and what they play.
I’ve read a lot of sites and articles about video games and what are the best games for them to play.
And I’d like to share with you what I’ve learnt.
I read about MMO games and I found they’re good for kids because they’re played on the Internet, the kids learn social skills, communication skills, they learn some of the fair play, and they learn something about the Internet protocol.
So, I’ve read those are the best games for them to play.
Then, I let them to play some games like this and now they’re playing this planet51online[dot]com from the movie Planet 51 which they loved.
Hope my comment is worthing for you and the learning skills of your kids.
bye!!
