Guybrush Threepwood is back in an all-new adventure for the PC and WiiWare. Check out the trailer for more monkey business.
When Telltale Games announced a new Monkey Island was on its way to WiiWare, I was so excited I wanted to jump up and down and shout “yes!” sandwiched with profanity but since I was on my own at silly ‘o clock in the morning, I resorted to the rather lame “yeah… [punches the air]“.
Beginning this Summer will be an all-new epic adventure that will span across 5 monthly installments. The game will be released episode by episode and with Telltale Games (whose staff include the designers and artists behind all the previous Monkey Island games) behind the developing wheels, we’re sure to be treated to another gem of a puzzler.
As always, the storyline will have you chuckling like you’ve had electro-shock therapy in a room filled with nitrous oxide. Well, that’s a bit odd but my point is they’re funny games. LucasArts has got that fine balance between narrative filler and ridiculous yet dry humour down to an art. One of my other favourite old PC puzzle games is Grim Fandango which is another great example of humour and video games giving birth to something beautiful.
This time, Guybrush has accidentally unleashed a voodoo pox that threatens to turn every buccaneer of the Caribbean into unruly pirate monsters. Gamers will unravel an insidious plot which is revealed across the course of the series.
Dan Connors, CEO at Telltale Games adds…
“The Monkey Island series set the standard for storytelling and character development in games…The next several months should be filled with all kinds of surprises as we continue the dramatic stories of Guybrush, Elaine and LeChuck. We are happy to be working with LucasArts to make this happen.”
Featuring 5 episodes to sink your teeth into…
Chapter 1
Launch of the Screaming Narhwal
Chapter 2
The siege of Spinner Cay
Chapter 3
Lair of the Leviathan
Chapter 4
The trial and execution of Guybrush Threepwood
Chapter 5
Rise of the Pirate God
Tales of Monkey Island is set for release on 7th July 2009 for the PC but a solid date for the WiiWare counterpart has not been announced yet. Who else is looking forward to this?
