Julie Seymour plays a major role in the development of NewU Fitness First Personal Trainer for the Nintendo Wii. Check out the latest trailer and screenshots for it.

Not only as the face of the latest fitness inspired video game, Julie Seymour, one of the leading personal trainers in the world’s largest chain of gyms, led a team at Fitness First and devised the exercises used in the game.

Rather than relying on 3D graphics, up to four real personal trainers will be onscreen to guide you through the sessions. Billed as an “interactive training solution focused on well-being”, this collaboration between Black Bean Games and Fitness First aims to separate itself from its competitors by offering audio/visual feedback during exercises.

Julie Seymour adds…

“I definitely think NewU will help people get into fitness more seriously, it’s just opened up a whole new area for people who wouldn’t necessarily be encouraged to go and start to exercise!”

Users define the workouts by setting goals and their nutritional preferences as part of the profile setup. With a choice of 25 goals to choose from and over 80 exercises available for each personal trainer, it should be as close to having a real stranger in your living room as it can be.

In collaboration with You Are What You Eat, nutritional advice is offered via the selection of recipes created by the experts behind the popular TV show and book range.

During the profile setup, users are asked about their nutritional preferences in order to create the perfect plan to suit their tastes. Featuring 138 recipes; which should provide 20 weeks of different food should be sufficient.

This title is also compatible with additional weights attachments from Riiflex which come in 2 and 4 pound sets. These are also compatible with other  fitness titles but was showcased with NewU Fitness First Personal Trainer at this year’s E3. Turning the wii-motes into “dumbbells” adds another layer of authenticity with more sets in different weights in the future on the cards.

Riiflex weights are engineered with sturdy, gym-quality construction in mind. The weights feature a custom-molded, ergonomic grip for secure feel and comfort. The quick-release design allows user to quickly switch between different Riiflex weights increments during workouts.

NewU Fitness First Personal Trainer is developed by Lightning Fish Games and published by Black Bean Games. Currently scheduled for release in September 2009, visit the official website by following the link below.

This sounds good – more interactive than just graphics. I think fitness trainers are a big piece to the weight loss puzzle – people need support.

It’ll be interesting to see how well this gets promoted and how it gets received by its demographic.
