Cosplayer PixelNinja, known on the interwebs for her spot on Varia Suit Samus cosplay a few months ago, recently made one of her greatest cosplays of Zero Suit Samus. After I sat and stared at some shots of PixelNinja for some time I posted a small story about the cosplay and got in touch with PixelNinja for a small interview, enjoy!

Q - Could you tell us about yourself so people who are unaware of your awesomeness have an idea?
A - Well, I think I’m gonna kill that thought of awesomeness in the next sentences. I’m just a nerd who really love old school gaming and old TV-shows like Ninja Turtles, Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon XD and I love to play old NES/SNES games like Mega Man, Nemo the Dream Master, Lolo and so on. But I love being creative so I think that’s what got me started in cosplaying.
Oh, and since I get e-mails about this a lot(!) I might also add that my ethnicity is Swedish/Japanese.

Q -When did you decide to start cosplaying?
A - Around 6 years ago when I moved to Stockholm and went to my first Anime convention (which were SMALL at that time, with only 5-10 cosplayers at most)

Q - How much work goes into a outfit like Samus’s Varia Suit?
A - Aloooot. So far that´s the hardest costume I’ve been working on, but I like to challenge myself so we’ll see how the next project will go which I will start on as soon as I can find the right fabrics. Damn small Sweden with it’s very very limited range of fabrics! Bleh! >__<

Q - Out of your Past Cosplay’s what’s your favourite?
A - It has to be the Samus Aran Varia suit, I had so much fun that day at the convention and I was really pleased with the end result after all hard work on that costume.

Q - Any future videogame cosplay ideas in the works?
A - Except the one I’m working on right now (secret!) -possibly something from Breath of Fire 2, love the game and the character designs.

Q - We’re guessing you’re a bit of a gamer yourself! what are some of your favourite games and what are you playing at the moment?
A - I’m more into old games to SNES, like the Zelda games, Super Metroid, Super Probotector, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Pocky and Rocky and the Final Fantasy series. At the moment I’m mostly playing Rock Band, Guitar Hero and Soul Calibur 4 with my buddies. And In the Groove to keep fit after all ice-creams-buffets!

Q - Are there any cosplay conventions you recommend to budding cosplayers?
A - I guess any convention where there is cosplay, the best would be UppCon which takes place once a year in Sweden and is the largest con here with 3000 people next time.

Q - Finally, is there anything you want to say to cosplayer newbie’s?
A - Just, try and stay away from shiny satin for a whole costume, it never looks good. And if you are unsure of what materials to use or so on your costume, Google up other cosplayers who have done that character to see what looks good and not IRL. Hope that helps.
