The Conduit

The Wii may be a family friendly console but that doesn’t mean it has to alienate its hardcore following. Infact with the success of the family-friendly genre Nintendo may be able to fund and attract bigger and wider games development and developers respectively.

With The Conduit, Nintendo show us that their latest console can provide gritty and raw games just like they can provide family oriented pish.

The story of The Conduit is set in the near future where you play as a secret service agent working for an agency called “The Trust.” The group deals with problems that the general public is better off not knowing about; however, an alien invasion is hard to ignore, so you’ve been tasked to deal with the problem. And yes, it does have a dinsticntly, ‘Men in Black,’ feel to it. In the screenies/trailers that we saw, there was various misshapen aliens, some walking on two legs and some flying around like insects.

The game seems to combine a darker mood with brighter visuals and as the trailer progresses we are invited to hear a little audio which whilst being distinctly macho-cheese, actually serves to whet the appetite for the main course of alien bashing with a side of the same.

At first glance the gameplay looks to be steady although there was no real conveyance of exactly how it will hold up with the Wii-mote and as yet we are unsure whether it will encorporate MotionPlus.

There seem (just like in MiB) to be a truckload of different weapons to choose from - so much so that Dolph Lundgren wouldn’t be able to complain.

On the whole, whilst still not the finished article it certainly looks promising. This alien invasion is set for March 2009, so check back soon for more coverage on The Conduit.
