As I mentioned in a recent article, Capcom have not exactly been forthcoming with their Wii adaptations of the titles. Many of their heavyweight games have not had any kind of prominence on the Nintendo platform and for the moment, with respect to the old-skool Capcom titles, this looks unlikely to change.
As many of you may have noticed, Capcom classics from the SNES and NES have been clearly absent from Nintendo’s Virtual Console medium. Whilst Nintendo have virtually single-handedly ignited gamer’s interests in the earlier and original blockbuster, e.g. Mario the masters of these ancestral consoles, Capcom, have not been quick to bring about re-releases of their archetypal gaming dynasties.
The reason for this informs Capcom, is that sadly, since many of its best games from back in those days were Disney properties, there are major issues with getting the likes of Duck Tales, Chip ‘N Dale, Aladdin and TaleSpin onto Nintendo’s retro download service.
Capcom’s Christian Svensson has recently mentioned that, ”Licensing issues abound. I think you’d be hard pressed to see them show up, but you never know.”
For the time being I’m afraid it looks like Nintendoids are just going to have to satisfy themselves with what is available, but in the mean time, never say never.
