Nintendo to address Wii storage issues.

Ninendo have announced that it is to seek a solution to the limited storage space on the Wii with “urgency”.

Nintendo have been criticised recently for not providing a solution to the ever present problem that is the lack of space on the console provided for its downloadable content such as WiiWare titles, Virtual Console purchases and the individual game channels.

“We have said publicly that we’re looking hard at the storage situation, that we’re working on a range of solutions. We have nothing to announce now. But certainly it’s an issue we are aware of and we’re working to find a solution and we will,” said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, to MTV.

The issue has become more central for Nintendo in recent weeks as  Laurent Fischer - European marketing director -  apologised after offending many gamers by saying that only “geeks and otaku” needed a greater amount of storage from the basic console.

Reggie also said that “In our view, this is becoming much more of a mainstream problem, which is why we have a sense of urgency to solve it”.

Hopefully this will lead to a swift, practical and inexpensive solution so that gamers worldwide can satisfy their desire to expand their console and enjoy the Wii to its fullest capacity. Full story here.

This is great, I’m glad Nintendo have finally woken up and realised that’s not just geeks and otaku who want the harddrive.
