According to Don over at videolamer, playing Mario Kart Wii with his combination of Wii remote equipped with a rechargeable battery pack (found in products like the one pictured above) and his trusty Wii Wheel causes some unwanted results.
The extra weight in the battery pack seems to set the Wii Wheel off balance, making the player’s kart veer off to the left. While replacing the batteries in the Wii remote straightens up the kart, together with removing the Wii remote from the Wii Wheel accessory, it is far from ideal in either case.
Quoteth Don:
Was the weight difference, a very noticeable one, messing with the ‘mote’s center-point?
Yes, in fact. Replacing the rechargeable pack with a standard set of crap-assed gas station batteries made our karts dead center again.
Now I’ve got to figure out how to add weight to my charger packs. That or play Kart at an odd angle.
Teh sux0rz.
So there we have it; don’t play Mario Kart Wii with the Wii Wheel if you use a recharge kit with your Wii remote or you might find yourself being left at the starting grid!

For the record not all recharger packs cause such an issue so “don’t play Mario Kart Wii if you use a recharge kit” is just scaremongering.
It’s plainly visible from a distance that the Nyko one pictured above will rebalance the remote, hence the problems said kit caused with previous first party products, you can get much less invasive ones that don’t alter anything and leave you able to play without problems.

It’s not intended to be scaremongering in any way (hence the use of the word ‘might’!).
It is however supposed to act as a warning to people who use these accessories as, if Nintendo are going to start developing games and accessories using factors such as the weight of 2 x AA size batteries, people with rechargeable packs might want to have some normal batteries ready in reserve, or get used to driving all wonky-like!
