Our friends across the pond have today seen their Wii Shopping Channel now supply them with some funky WiiWare games to spend their Wii Points on.
For those who have been living in a cave for the past few months, WiiWare is the name Nintendo has given to a line-up of exclusive games which are available to download using their WiiConnect24 service and the Wii Shopping Channel. The games are said to be exclusive to the console, and make use of some or all of the great Wii remote controlling schemes. They are also a platform for some of the smaller (indie) developers to get their games published to the masses, and will hopefully lead to some real gems being made available.
The US has had to sacrifice their normal Virtual Console Monday update so it does not overshadow the release of WiiWare, and so far they have 6 titles available:
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (1500 Wii Points)
- LostWinds (1000 Wii Points)
- Defend your Castle (500 Wii Points)
- Pop (700 Wii Points)
- V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack (700 Wii Points)
- TV Show King (1000 Wii Points)
This can only be the start of something which will get bigger and better in time, and hopefully find Nintendo their own smash hit equivalent to Microsoft Live Arcade’s Geometry Wars.
