Developer Epic Games has never been a huge fan of the Wii, regardless of the fact that it holds a lot of merit. IGN had recently interviewed the company’s president Mike Capps at New York Comic-Con and he established, being very matter-of-fact, that they will not make any games for the Nintendo console at all. Apparently they “go forward and not backwards.”
It’s a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they’re like, “Oh my God that’s so cool, I’m gonna go buy it.” So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they’ve showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. Obviously there’s a class of people who really love it and enjoy it and are getting into the games but I’m still waiting for that one game that makes me play it.
Capps does sound awfully bitter, but his message doesn’t necessary reflect the views of Epic Games entirely. It could be perhaps that the company is moving ahead with improved technology and the Wii won’t suffice in this. Oh well, no waggle for Gears of War 2 then.
