If you thought Apollo Justice was a nice breakaway (a small one rather) from Capcom’s Gyakuten Saiban series, do we have news for you! The company has recently announced a new spin off to the series for the DS called Gyakuten Kenji.
This time around, players will take a different court role entirely by taking the position of Reiji Miturugi (otherwise known as Miles Edgeworth for the people of the west) and acting as the prosecutor whereas previous iterations put you as the role of defense attorney. Miturugi is best known for being Phoenix Wright’s main rival in the court room and all around.
Apparently being the prosecutor grants you with new features as Gyakuten Kenji allows full control over Reiji, giving the presumption that the game could possibly be D-pad based rather than the stylus. Whatever changes are made, we’ll know they are justified as the veterans of the Gyakuten Saiben series are also working on this new game. Motohide Eshiro (Onimusha 2 and Shadow of Rome) is producing, Takeshi Yamazaki (Saiben 4) is directing and Tatsuro Iwamoto is working on the overall art direction and character designs, as he had done the same for Saiben 2 and 3.
Gyakuten Kenji is 40% done so far but no release date has been announced.
