MTV Games, Electronic Arts and Harmonix have announced yesterday that their musical sensation Rock Band will be heading to North American shores on June 22nd.

For those unaware of what this game is, Rock Band is essentially Guitar Hero taken to the next level. Instead of just playing with a guitar, players will be picking up a mic and drum kit and participate in a four-person band. The Wii version will differ from the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions by following more of the PS2 feature-set which excludes downloadable content and online play. Despite this, the entire package (includes game, one guitar, drum set and mic) will run you by $169.99 USD though one can buy the game and instruments separately (available at launch). Rock Band on Wii will feature 63 songs, five bonus tunes exclusive for this console version.

“When developing Rock Band for the Wii platform, we focused on making the core gameplay experience as solid and enjoyable as possible while tailoring it specifically to the strengths of the platform. The Wii version still contains the robust four-player band experience and all the fun at the core of other versions of Rock Band,” said Harmonix in a statement. “However, because the Wii’s online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realized, we wanted to wait before we explored online functionality for Rock Band to ensure that players get the high-quality of online performance they’ve come to expect.”
