A lot of people are a little out of the age bracket (that’s the nice way of putting it right?) when it comes to older consoles, many of the PS1 generation have no idea what Commodore 64 is, what the hell it did, or whats good on it. so we at WiiDS.co.uk thought it would be wise to put together a little package summing up a little information about the C64, and the games we would love to see!
The Commodore 64 is one of the 8-bit generations most celebrated machines, released in August 1982 the Commodore featured 64 kilobytes (yes, kilobytes not megabytes..this really is old school folks!) of RAM with superior graphics and sound to anything else on the market at the time.
Known under several names of affection such as the breadbox (which is what my family called it) due to its size and shape or simple titles such as the C64 (for people who lacked imagination) the machine shifted fast and having nearly 10,000 pieces of software made for the C64 in its lifetime, it was far and away one of the huge success stories of the ‘golden age of gaming’. During its peak the C64 held around 40% of the market shipping over 30 million units, from release until 1994 when it was finally discontinued in the 16-bit era of Sega’s Megadrive and Nintendo’s SNES.
In today’s market, the C64 and its software is used by fanboys of the era to be played on any desktop machine, but now Nintendo are giving a whole new generation a chance to play old classics from the past with the virtual console, so here is our rundown of games we would like to see:

Impossible Mission
An awesome game of one man vs the world, the literally impossible mission is to break into a building and shutdown a computer within 6 hours before a mad man nukes the planet. you don’t get much better writing than that and we love it.

Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior
Not many games can come up with some story-lines worse than this game. Drax, an evil sorcerer of evilness, lusts after the voluptuous Princess Whittaker because he can. Unless she’s delivered to him he will unleash his wrath upon the people of the princesses City. However, if the City can offer up a champion to defeat the evil sorcerer and his muscular henchmen he will admit defeat. away from the terrible story the game has gore gore and more gore with bloody corpses, decapitation and some damn fun gameplay.

IK+
Before smash bros, before street fighter, before even killer instinct there was IK. IK stands for International Karate and was a free for all karate game based on the same points system used in Karate Tournaments. it was a great game with a great soundtrack and i cant wait for this!

Ikari Warriors
A top down shooter letting you take control of two soldiers trying to save Colonel Cook. the game really was fun before online games where the big thing and sitting with a sibling playing this could last for hours. A gem of a classic.

The Last Ninja 2
Surely the title does enough for a purchase. i mean how can you have a second last ninja? surely the last ninja was the LAST ninja. never the less this game reeks of awesomeness and was one of the more graphically advanced games on the C64.

Treasure Island Dizzy
One of the original Dizzy games before the series was a bit stagnant. following on from the previous game Dizzy takes a well earned vacation. after a series of unfortunate events dizzy ends up on a island and tries to make his way home. a fun and enjoyable adventure game!
There are loads more games we would like to see on the VC in the coming months, we hope we get some of them! so what do you guys want from the C64 days? (if you were around back then!)

Ikari Warriors is CLASSIC!
As is Treasure Island Dizzy, I wouldn’t buy Dizzy though seeing as how Codemasters offer it for free as a PC Download
