Folks like Johnny Chung Lee have made impressive experimental tech demos demonstrating head tracking with the Nintendo Wii remote. By reversing the position of the Wii remote and the sensor bar with a television, this allows for a 3D camera to be controlled by the movement of the user.
Now at GDC 2008, Electronic Arts was discussing the development of Boom Blox and has revealed that heading tracking will be available in the game as a hidden Easter Egg. During a video demonstration, a brick structure was blown up and then the game was paused so that players can indulge and move around the destruction in full 3D. In order for players to utilize head tracking with Boom Blox, they’ll need two infrared light sources, which can be accomplished with two Wii remotes on your person or having a pair of glasses with the lights.
Stick with WiiDS as we continue to report on GDC 2008 and other video game news!
