Trade Stars for Wii Points

Us “lucky” Nintendo-Europe users probably already know about the stars program. The deal is that inside all Nintendo published games comes a little card with a scratch-off panel. Underneath this panel is a unique code, which when entered on the Nintendo-Europe site, adds a certain number of star points to your account (with the normal rate being 250 stars per game registered). These stars could then be used to get hold of some “great” merchandise such as ringtones and backgrounds, and sometimes a DS game (for the lucky few).

Back when the Wii first came out there was news that Nintendo-Europe would be providing users the handy facility to exchange their stars for Wii Points so they can stock up on some Virtual Console sweetness. This however never appeared, until today, exactally 365 days since the Nintendo Wii hit our European shores!

European Club Nintendo members with spare stars can now visit the Wii Points Card Shop and exchange their pretty useless star points for some oh-so-great Wii Points to spend on some great Virtual Console titles. The exchange rate is currently 400 stars for 100 Wii Points which means that many people won’t be able to download many VC titles for “free”, but I guess it’s about time we had something to do with our stars before the new terms & conditions kick-in and we lose all of our unused points!

[Update: It would appear the site is either down or not ready for our prying eyes, so the above link might not work!]
