Friday’s Virtual Console Releases 09/11

Three new games are available on the Virtual Console this week, featuring one game from the NES, the NEOGEO and the trusty old TurboGrafx.

This week’s pick of the bunch has to be Super Mario Bros. 3, which completes the series of Mario games now available on the Virtual Console. Concidered one of the defining games in video-gaming history, this early platformer really showed the world was Mario could do, and introduced some very special powerups such as the frog suit and tanooki suit which more then earnt their place in history.

The release of Super Mario Bros. 3 also is very well timed, as Mario’s latest adventure, UR MR GAY, I mean Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii hits the shops next Friday, which probably means that most of us won’t have time for the Virtual Console next week!

NES (500 Wii Points)

  • Super Mario Bros. 3

Mario will soon blast off on an out-of this-world adventure in Super Mario Galaxy for Wii (in shops November 16) So, to get you in the Mario mood, you can now enjoy the all-time classic Super Mario Bros. 3 on Virtual Console!

Renowned as one of the best-selling and most-loved video games of all time, Super Mario Bros. 3 was a flagship NES title that introduced new Mario abilities (like a flying Racoon suit), eight worlds of perilous platform action, and even Bowser’s bothersome kids!

This Miyamoto masterpiece joins its fellow Mario platformers also available on Virtual Console: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario World and Super Mario 64.

NEOGEO (900 Wii Points)

  • Blue’s Journey

Blue’s Journey, the latest NEOGEO release for Virtual Console, is a cute and colourful platformer with a distinctly ecological theme.

As the small yet heroic Blue, it falls to you to rid planet Raguy of the Daruma Empire that is polluting the environment and turning its inhabitants into slaves.

Armed only with a leaf-whip, you must seek out shops to bestow Blue with new abilities that will help defeat the Daruma and restore Raguy to its former, greener, self.

TurboGrafx (600 Wii Points)

  • Power Golf

Take on 18 holes of challenging fairway action in Turbografx sports title Power Golf, now on Virtual Console.

Power Golf features three main modes: Stroke Play, Match Play and Competition, for up to three human or computer-controlled players. Size up the green, watch out for sandtraps, set the correct power and spin, and make your shot count!

Don’t forget to check back soon to find out what we think of these new titles and more in our Virtual Console Archive or let us know what you think in the Virtual Console user reviews thread over on the WiiDS.co.uk Boards.
