Ys I and II Remakes Fight the DS

Japanese video game publication, Famitsu has reported that Interchannel-Holon will remake Ys 1 & 2 for the Nintendo DS. Originally created in 1987 and 1988, the games will sport some new upgrades in the visual and content department that might lure back some die hard fans.

The Ys 1 & 2 remakes will feature new character animations such as Adol (main character) swinging a sword at enemies instead of bumping into them to engage in combat. New enemies and maps will be introduced as well. And to be compatible with the DS system, the remakes will utilize both screens, the top displaying the game field and the bottom showing the player’s stats.

Three new modes are being introduced: a boss mode, a jukes box and a multiplayer component. The latter allows for four people to compete via wireless connection and defeat as many enemies as possible and collect orbs left behind.

Both of the Ys remakes will be sold separately same (for 5040 yen or $44) as the Final Fantasy I & II ports for the Playstation Portable and will be released in Japan in Spring 2008.
