A mix of titles join the steadily increasing lineup available on the Wii’s Virtual Console this week, including another release for the recent addition of the NEOGEO back-catalogue of games.

This weeks pick of the bunch has to be Yoshi’s Story. Just the mention of this game reminds me of the great soundtrack and fabric picturebook style graphics, and one of my favorite levels found in any platformer (the one on the moon with big black raven thingy!).

Nintendo 64 (1000 Points)

• Yoshi’s Story

  Baby Bowser has been bad; turning Yoshi’s Island into a picture book and stealing the source of the island’s happiness. Now it’s up to the six sole remaining Yoshis to save the day!

  Yoshi’s Story, the follow-up to the Super Nintendo classic Yoshi’s Island, uses a unique ‘2.5-D’ graphical style to render environments made of paper, patchwork and plastic.

  Fire eggs at enemies, sniff the ground for secrets and scoff down all the fruit you can in this colourfully cute quest.

NEOGEO (900 Points)

• Magician Lord

  Magician Lord – now on Virtual Console – was a NEOGEO launch title and made the perfect showcase for the system’s arcade-style graphics and sound.

  As the powerful wizard Elta, battle across eight stages of demonic enemies, using your powers of transformation to become a dragon, a samurai and more!

TurboGrafx (800 Points)

• Super Air Zonk: Rockabilly Paradise

  Return to the colourful, crazy world of Air Zonk in the sequel to the classic Turbografx side-scrolling shooter.

  Super Air Zonk: Rockabilly Paradise features even more bonkers action as you transform into a helicopter, laser-spitting turtle and even a sushi chef!

  Originally released for the TurboDuo system, Super Air Zonk features a CD quality soundtrack that’s sure to get your toes tapping as much as your trigger finger!
