The prince of darkness has placed a curse on the land and stolen the Golden Axe.
For the most part, the backgrounds are a bit static, however a few stages have suprised me. Though my main problem is with the lack of enemies, so far there have only been 6 that I have seen, the rest being palette swaps, and a few bosses.
Sound is a bit dated, music is stale and repetitive. All the sound effects are ok, though I have noticed a slight timing issue with attacking sounds, other than that, it is pretty decent.
It is somewhat difficult, adding it up, you have about 12 lives, which may seem like plenty, however, any boss may knock off a few quite easily. You can however bring a friend along, since most of the enemies’ strategy is to surround you and attack at once, usually forcing you to use up your very finite magic attack.
It hasn’t aged well, unfortunately, with many other beat’em’ups on the VC, it pales compared to a few others, however, it is still a solid choice of game.
