Silent Debuggers

Have you desired for a Virtual Console version of that cereal game, Chex Quest? Does tedious corridor traveling make you want to jump out of your sofa! Silent Debugger fills that bill as one of gaming history’s worst first-person shooters.

As a debugger, you and your fellow debugger, Leon uncover a large cargo station in the myst of space. Curious, both of you board the station in search of treasure. Leon sits at the main computer and tells you monsters flood the area. Its up to you alone to rid away of the pests, and more objectives to come.

Silent Debuggers ought to be put in a retirement home because its boring and relentlessly annoying. Most of the time, you’ll be walking down hallways from a first person perspective actually wondering where to go. The game lacks any direction, unless you count Leon’s countless and useless hints. Without any background knowledge on the game, the average player will spend quite a long time to actually find out where the action is. The game’s corridors look exactly the same, branching off into multiple paths which seem to bring you back to the same spots. There is a map on the bottom part of your screen, but it doesn’t tell you your location so its completely useless.

By the time you come in contact with the monsters, the action heats up and simmers down quickly. They seem uniquitous and randomly generated, so the first objective seems pointless. You do have six weapons prior to choose from, but each feel the same. Since you don’t have unlimited ammo and battery life, you’ll be forced to retreat many times to refuel in stations, which are not marked on the pointless map. Silent Debugger doesn’t even have enough ingredients to make a successful snack, nevermind a five-star meal.

Silent Debugger will curse gamers into utter boredom and frustration because of it’s lack of many in-game features. The first-person concept has no depth, Leon’s hints don’t mean anything and monster combat is awfully repetitive. If I were you, I’d let this game die in silence.

Overall Score: 3.5/10
