Wave Race 64

Wave Race 64 was developed by Nintendo EAD for the Nintendo 64 back in 1996. If you are ready to step back into the waters, or if you haven’t heard of the series, than this second entry is a must buy for all racing fans alike.

As of some N64 titles such as Super Mario 64 and Starfox 64, Wave Race 64 has aged well, still showcasing some of the best water effects and level design. And this game has it all, a Championship mode, a Stunt Mode, diverse watercraft pilots and two-player multiplayer. Replay value is inevitable, because the experience can change drastically everytime you pick up the remote.

Wave Race 64 has only four characters, which may seem like a small amount. But each character is different in terms of controls, features and personality. You can choose Dave Mariner who is a speedy fella, but has terrible grip and handling or Miles Jeter has exceptional handling, but is mediocre in other categories. Players can go as far as customizing features for their specific interests.

Getting wet in racing is the main attraction. Championship mode will leave the player to race against the other three competitors through a series of courses ranging from sunset shores to a water navel base. Other than trying to reach the checkered flags first, players must also stay in line of buoys which are placed in the water for the purpose for the purpose of directed the player through the course. Missing some will penalize you and if you miss them all, you lose the race. Stunt mode is also available for players to rip up the waters. They must race through unlocked courses, performing as many stunts and zooming through striped rings littered throughout the waters.

Wave Race 64 is a game to treasure for many years to come. Until a Wii sequel is announced (it better come), this game will do justice so download it if you are a hardcore racing fan.

Overall Score: 9.5/10
