China Warrior

I don’t normally come to a game with low expectations, but when I readied China Warrior to play, I was disappointed beforehand and from then on. China Warrior was developed by Hudson Soft for the TurboGrafx back in 1987. The game puts you in the shoes of a Bruce Lee resemblance who must travel through four short levels to kick evil butt. Not only is the game a piece of horse crap, it’ll destroy your love for Hudson Soft in some means.

It goes to show that old school gaming has it’s ups and downs. China Warrior sinks so low, its impossible to even consider it a legitimate game. After the embellished title screen, you are dropped into a level which walks you through via side scroll. The game literally walks you because the game is built on rails, with scripted and repetitive enemy attacks. The camera focuses very close to the characters, in the hopes to simplify the game play.

Without any established game set, China Warrior becomes nothing more than a cheap flash game thought to be made by a computer geek, not a full-fledged developer. Enemies will literally walk into you, in which you must either kick or punch them. Doing so will be the only means of actually stopping (remember, the game is built on rails). Other obstacles include hurdling rocks, flying fire napalm and much more questionable objects. The game is terrible on so many levels, even the visuals lack variety. Everyone looks like cardboard cut-outs, and enemy models are repetitive by level.

Other than a review, think of this as a warning to never seek or lay a finger on this download. Its the result of a lazy developer who thought they could attract players with its over-sized character models and flimsy game play. I’ve seen better entertainment from a blank white wall than from China Warrior.

Overall Score: 1.0/10
