That last time we’ve heard, the Nintendo Wii console sold 5.5 million consoles at the end of the fiscal year. It has also been speculated that since it failed to reach the 6 million mark by the beginning of April, it’ll fail it’s goal of 10 million at the end of the year.

Whoever said that might want to eat their words, because VGChartz reports a worldwide estimate of 8.17 million consoles sold since it’s launch in 2006. The Nintendo console is only inches away (or 2 million to be exact) from the lead, which is the Xbox 360. Sadly, the Sony Playstation 3 trails way behind at an estimate of 3.42 million sold.

Cross your fingers fans for the 10 million mark by the end of this fiscal year which is March 2008.
