Review

Shoot your way through nine different levels with your Gunhead to defeat the Dark Squadron and halt their invasion of earth.

Like any space shooter developed by Hudson, a lot of effort was put into the graphical detail, and with the various shots the ship may take, I’m very impressed with it. Side to side movement has this really nice scrolling effect that I like, and is suprising for a 89 release.

Blazing Lazers’ music is not too shabby, but is overshadowed by some of the later releases. Effects of shots and explosions are nicely executed. There is not a whole lot I can add here, since sometimes simpler is better.

For a space shooter, this has a pretty lax difficulty, not only do power-ups come every 5 seconds, a player can quickly build up an energy shield to take extra hits. However, this can gather appeal from more casual gamers, who eschew difficult shooters such as Super Star Soldier or R-Type.

While not the greatest of shooters, this game is good for almost anybody, definitely give it a shot if you have the points.
