This game has masqueraded as many with Dragon’s Curse being just one of its Aliases. In Japan it was Adventure Island and on the Sega Master System it was better known as Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap however we may all now enjoy as a download on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console.

The plot is fairly simple on the surface; a dragon defeated in a previous game casts a spell on the warrior and he is turned into a lizard like creature. The warrior must find the Salamader Cross which will break the curse. The plot does however provide a few twists and turns and the warrior is [re]cursed a number of times each with a different animal like effect. Expect everything from Piranha-Man to Mouse-Man!

The graphics are simple yet colourful not unlike the many number of Wonder Boy games already out there. Audio is engaging without being annoying. The game play is simple and effective but not unlike most other side-scrolling action RPG games of this era.

Strategically the game does however offer a little more longevity with depth taken from the multi-formed warrior and your ability to cope with the different approaches needed to utilise the strengths of each facade. The end result is pleasing and although it’s not the best game on the VC, overall not a bad game for 600points.
