Easter sales have pushed the Nintendo Wii into its third biggest week in the UK since the launch in December.
Nintendo has informed GamesIndustry.biz that they have experienced sales of around 25,000 units in the last week making it the third most successful week in the Wii’s short life. In comparison to the competition, Playstation 3 sold around 17,000 units whereas the Xbox 360 sold around 11,000, making the Wii UK’s number 1 yet again.
The busy Easter period was the main contributing factor for this success, however you can’t help but wonder if the mass amount of Wii sold was due to such high demand created by the stock shortages, and Nintendo shipping the consoles just at the start of the school holidays.
The demand for the Nintendo Wii is more than any other console has experienced. A Nintendo spokesperson said “Demand for the console is clearly huge and is exceeding supply.” he also added, “We are doing everything we can to get as much stock out there as possible.”
We can all dream of a day when we can walk into a store and ask “Can I have a Nintendo Wii please?” and you don’t get laughed at, but until that time we must congratulate Nintendo on its success.
