Introduction

In a world dominated by trucks, only one man (or girl, or robot?!) has the power to control them… and that’s you!

Welcome to Excite Truck!

Excite Truck is a game based on one of Nintendo’s franchises, the Excite series. It is a racing game, where you race trucks around different terrains at insane speeds. Boosts and land-shifting add even more to the fun. Invite friends to race over and make sure you crush their trucks or send them flying into the air

Graphics

Excite Truck hosts some awesome graphics, the best any racing title out now has. You can clearly see the well done enviorments as well as the detailed trucks. One small downside is that Excite Truck doesn’t look very good in an HDTV at 480p. If you have an HDTV I reccomend 480i because you notice the jagged edges too much in 480p.

Sound

The music is pretty good, but not that exciting although there was one that was very well put (Nebula). That’s why Monster Games lets you race to any music you have downloaded to your SD Card! Imagine racing to a fast-paced song like B.Y.O.B or calmy racing to Mozart. As for the sound coming out of the Wiimote, it sounds great for a small speaker.

Controls

The wiimote brings up a whole new way of controlling your trucks. Hold the wiimote sideways and tilt to the left or right depending where you want to go. Hold the D-pad in any direction to boost and when you are high, high in the air, tilt the wiimote backwards to make sure you grab 5 stars. Even the smallest tilt is recognized by the wiimote so don’t do anything stupid (I did and I crashed so hard I almost felt it).

Enviorments and other things

Enviorments. This is what really dissapointed me with Excite Truck. Yeah, you can ride in the snow, rain, desert, ect., but almost all trakcs are similar to each other. Multiplayer. Every racing game has to have multi-player for it to be a racing game. This is no exception, but only 2 players? That’s wickedy-wickedy-wack. Challange Mode was also simple, yet VERY HARD to pass. Getting through a whole bunch of rings in the air and gates is tougher than you think.

Best Part

This game has many great things to it, but the best one of all definetly has to be the truck variety and the excitement. All the trucks were made with alot of creativity although 1 or 2 trucks might look a little familiar. This isn’t just a racing game where you race around cities at high speeds. This is a game where you race MONSTER TRUCKS at SUPER SPEEDS in CRAZY ENVIORMENTS WITH HUGE BUMPS against 5 other MONSTER TRUCKS, and where you get stars for crashes. I mean, what other game gives you credit for crashing your truck?

What Could Have Made the Game Better

4 player multiplayer and online would make this game a best-seller. Also Nintendo could varied the enviorments and made a few more unrealistic tracks, but nonetheless they were pretty creative.

Highs and Lows:

High Points:

  • Many different Trucks with varying abilities.
  • Morphing makes for alot of fun

Low Points:

  • No online.
  • No 4-multiplayer support

Closing Comments

If you want a racing game, buy Excite Truck. This is a game everybody can enjoy because of its simple controls yet exciting racing modes and enviorments. I mean, who doesn’t like trucks crashing into each other at extreme speeds? I rate this game

Score: 8.5/10

I haven’t played a racing game as fun as this for a long long time. I love the big jumps and turbos, and the landscape morphing icons are the icing on the cake. Due to the simplicity of the options avaialble (there is no championship as such for example) I don’t think the game is worth full price. But I paid £25 for it, and it is worth every penny. Great game.
