King Dedede has stolen the Star Rod and split it into seven pieces. Take Kirby and get them back.

The palette is very bland, which makes the game look faded and washed, which is a shame, because the sprites are some of the best for the NES. Backgrounds and scenery are also impressive, but still suffer from the palette. In spite of of all that, this game still is picturesque.

I’m listening to the music right now, I really like it, the different overworld themes really work, as well as the level music is simply great. Kirby’s Adventure also pulls out the stops for the other sounds, with effects for his many acquirable abilites. I can say that the Beam effect is my favorite.

Completely blowing me away, Kirby can not only fly at will by puffing himself full of air, but he can also suck up any opponents, and copy their special abilites, if they have any. There are a wide variety of abilities too, ranging from basic stuff like Beam or Parasol, and getting to things such as UFO or Wheel. While a lot of abilities are not necessary, some of them can be used to find secret paths, or are just plain cool to use.

Kirby’s Adventure is a great game, completely worth the mere 500 points it goes for. I’ll expect I will be playing it quite a bit once the class term ends.
