Link is back in his second installment on the NES, Adventure of Link. Where he must break the curse on Zelda, while still avoiding the reminants of Ganon’s armies.
Zelda II has many graphical improvements over it’s precedent. Everything is clearer and more detailed. Battle screen is impressive for it’s era, and definitely worth mentioning.
Sound is defintely something, sometimes it really stands out, especially the dungeon music. Most of the score is impressive, but Zelda games normally have had good music. The sound effects are pretty good too.
This game shares a few similarities with the first, however, it is quite different, and remains unique in the series, and plays similar to an RPG. The overworld looks similar to that of the first, but instead of fighting enemies there, Link can touch them to enter a battle, which is carried out in a method not unlike Castlevania. Defeating enemies will net him experience which he can then use to level his statistics. Obviously, the better they are, the more powerfull Link becomes. Dungeons and caves are also extensions of the battle style, and are played out exactly the same, except being larger and more complex.
This game is difficult, especially when one doesn’t understand the battle system. However, with a bit of trial and ERROR, people can get the ball rolling and soon have some fun. While not as fun as ALttP or OoT, you can still find many hours of solid enjoyment from this title.
