I was a six year old boy when my parents brought home the SNES, it came bundled with this game. Yes, my very first console game, which lead me down this path, was this game here. Take control of Mario and guide him through many lands to save Yoshi, his friends and Princess Toadstool from Bowser and the Koopa Kid’s clutches.
This game has a defining level of graphics, since it is one of the first to be developed for the system. The sprites are excellently done, not to mention, many sprites are seen onscreen at once, slowdown may occur in a number of levels, but shouldn’t prove a problem. Level backgrounds are excellent, and a giant leap over it’s predecessors on the NES. The fun doesn’t stop there, the music is pretty much the same for almost every level, with some exception, however, it has several different remixes, such as one for plains levels, highland levels, cave levels etc. which seem quite different from each other without careful observation of the tune, and if that wasn’t enough, when you hop on Yoshi, a set of bongo drums start playing. Other music, such as the overworld themes are pretty outstanding too. The remaining topic in the sound category, the effects are pretty amazing, and suprisingly clear sounding, especially the coin sound, the very first sound one should hear when they play this.
Super Mario World added new gameplay to the series by utilizing many of the buttons on the SNES controller. First, we had scrolling the view forward or backwards by using the L and R shoulder buttons, had allowed us to be prepared for dangers that would be unseen, or perhaps allow us to make better judgement on leaps of faith. Second would be the spin jump, which would allow a Super Mario to break the yellow bricks from on top by landing on them. Third we had Yoshi, and his ability to swallow foes and spit them back out, also, one can jump off of him in mid-air for a cheap double jump. Lastly, flight is probably the best one out of any of the Mario games, skilled players can not only fly indefinitely, but can gain as much height as they would like. Plus they can have Mario slam into the ground to knock enemies about.
It could be purportedly described as one of the greatest games of all times, and it is only worth 800 points to download. A pretty much sure download for anyone who can, and definitely recomended.
