Playstation 3 Isn’t Selling as Expected?

So…do any of you plan on buying a PSWii? Or just the Playstation 3? This piece of entertainment is crammed with Blueray, and all the power you can possibly muster. To people in the U.S and Japan, this system has been hyped for months. Why? Sony has sent a very small amount of shipments to selected stores on it’s November 17 release date. And what was the result of that? Chaos. Civilians camped out days before the release, people were actually shot, riots fought, people were arrested. People acted like children to get this system, and it all ending in tragic wastes of time and life. I live in the United States, and I sought to find a piece of dignity from the news, but you couldn’t get any higher than that.

You may ask what happened after the launch date? Several if not many people started selling them on Ebay for over one grand. This happened before with the Xbox 360 due to shortages. For some reason, we have no patience when it comes to rare purchases, and civilians actually went forth and bought a over priced PS3. Which is kind of sad when you realize that we could spend money on something more realistic.

Now you must remember…this was only the United States and Japan. But what about Europe/UK? People were quite disappointed that the release date was moved back to March 2007. That doesn’t worry a lot of folks, March isn’t too far away now. So…are you guys ready to camp out days before the launch? Are you going to buy the system of the internet for an outragious price tag? I’ve got one word for you: DON’T.

By the end of 2006, the Wii has already sold more than half the amount of PS3’s in Japan and the U.S. In Japan alone, the Wii sold 1.14 million units while Playstation 3 stayed timid with only 534,336 units gone out the door. A Tokyo-based magazine publisher released this estimate which took between November 11-January 7. According to Nextgenwars.com, Playstation 3 just crawled over the wall of the 1 million mark. Which probably didn’t reach Sony’s expectations as expected (repeat not intended).

Not too long ago, Sony dished out a new large shipment of PS3 to retail stores. I read an article of a kid that wanted to buy some games. He saw a stock pile of Playstation 3’s lying on the ground. He asked the clerk if they are being preordered. The clerk shook his head and said they are just sitting there. Sitting there? After that I hoped off my computer and my family headed to a Shopping Center in another city. I stepped inside GameStop to check out some Wii games. I happened to eavesdrop over the counter….and I saw a number of PS3 units…..sitting there. I asked why they are not selling like hotcakes. The cashier told me that no one is buying them ever since the units came in. He also mentioned that people were trading them in!! Wahhh!!!

Not to overreact like that, but it’s true. As far as I’m concern, I haven’t seen Playstation 3’s come off the shelf as expected. I found some crazy pics proving this to be somewhat of a fact. I couldn’t help but laugh. I contemplated whether this can possibly affect Sony’s future in the gaming industry, and it’s showing scars now.

Maybe I’m being a little pessimistic about Sony’s future. But we must look back in time. Between the span of time of November 17, 2006 to…some week ago, the Playstation 3 was gone off the shelves, missing in action. What happened now? People are not buying the system, and some are actually selling them back. Could this be a significant sign of some sort?

I’m just posting this as future reference for those in the UK that want this system. As desperate as you are to spend over a thousand dollars, get in fights, or camp out for days, this goes to show that patience is a must in tight situations like this. I wish you luck Sony…don’t fail too fast.

yeah I saw some on the shelves just sitting there in the U.S. Friends of mine who bought it are regretting not getting a wii after they have seen it in action. I feel kinda bad for PS3.
