Welcome to the first (and hopefully not last) segment of “Aussie Action”, the place of this site where you can find out everything that’s happening down south. You’ll learn things such as sale figures, marketing campaigns, and what Nintendo is trying to do to push forward to Australian market.
Nintendo recently announced that 3 weeks after the official Wii launch on December 7th, it’s broken the 50000 mark. This is quite impressive, as the Aussie gaming market isn’t as huge as the rest of the world. That’s not the only area that Nintendo dominated it. They swept the gaming nation with the DS, which continued it’s top spot as the highest selling games console of 2006. A lot of this had to do with the all-round approach Nintendo was taking with the “Touch Generation” series. These were the games such as Brain Training and Nintendogs. While normal games like New Super Mario Bros. and the new Pokemon Dungeons kept sales soaring too!
Nintendo have finally learnt that Australia is becoming a gamer. For the DS, there was very little advertising. Now I view at least a Wii advertisement a day (which you can view on www.Nintendo.com.au). It has been announced as a “must have” item, which will really make it stand out from the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Here are some Australian release dates to look for:
Nintendo DS
Nintendo DS Browser for DS Lite ** - January 18th
Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis - January 18th
Sudoku Gridmaster - February 22nd
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 - February 22nd
Kirby: Squeak Squad - March 1st
Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney - March 8th
Diddy Kong Racing DS - early April
Wii
WarioWare: Smooth Moves - January 25th
Excite Truck - February 22th
Kororinpa - March 1st
Wing Island - late March
As you can see, Nintendo have really won over the Australian market. The question many fans are asking is “How long will this last?”. Well i can safely say we won’t be seeing them down the bottom anytime soon
