Getting Ready for Wii – Let’s-a-go!

In the final installment of Getting Ready for Wii before the console launches tomorrow, 8th December, I subject you to my rambling mear hours before I finally pick up a Wii console, something I’ve been waiting months and months for!

The Wait

I have to admit to being a bit of a Nintendo fanboy, incase you were not aware, and have at times preached to many of my friends how they should get involved with consoles such as the SNES, N64 and Gamecube, and bragging about being the first in my high school to complete Super Mario 64 with all 120 stars.

I even almost missed an exam at uni due to the release of the Gamecobe, but managed to make it with seconds to spare. And yes, I was one of the unfortunate ones to pay the stupidly high launch price that got seriously reduced a week or two later, but I’m not fussed at all. Quite happy was I, playing such titles as Luigi’s Manson, Super Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker a Super Mario Strikers, well, that was until the whole Gamecube thing seemed to come to an end.

The Revolution

But then Nintendo go and announce that they’re starting a Revolution, with this fancy new console that no one really knew anything about, and this fancy one-handed controller with motion sensitive controls.

Months of drip-fed news past. E3 came and went. Excitement grew and grew. More news and rumours surface. Eventually I become some sort of quivering wreck, not knowing when I can play with one, and what games I can expect.

I need Zelda, I need Mario, and I need everything else that Nintendo have been doing and will do for the next million years. Then came the day I’d been waiting for, the day we all found out when and how much.

The Price

£179.99 including a free game that actually looks worth playing. Count me in! Although maybe a little more then all the hype and rumours had been suggesting, still cheap enough to make me start saving and planning.

And what’s this?! Zelda is going to be a launch title?! Sounds like Nintnedo have taken into account their past mistakes (although Luigi’s Mansion *was* a good game!), and my excitement suddenly reaches extreme levels.

The Last Few Weeks

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Red Steel, Wii Play, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz and Rayman Raving Rabbids. That was my finally decided shopping list, and that’s what I’ll be picking up in a couple of hours. But the last few weeks have been horrible.

The US got their console what seems like an age ago. Then Japan got their console, and we’re still waiting. The interent becomes an minefield for someone like me. Always eagar to keep an eye on what’s currently going on. Littered with spoilers, cheats and YouTube powered video’s showing off everything I’d want to find out on my own.

And then it started, and by that I mean the onslaught of Wii adverts for everything that I planned to get on release day. Thank goodness they decided to push this one, and hopefully not let it fall back to the darkest sheves in my local game shop like the Gamecube did. Every single advert made me smile, and made my sister jump up and down shouting out how long was left until the console came out.

The Final Countdown

And now I’m sitting here writing this, which probably makes little to no sense, and looking at the clock every 3 seconds, hoping, wishing that it closer to the midnight hour then it actually is. I have to apollogise for this post, it’s poor grammar, spelling mistakes and total lack of structure, but I have to do something to keep myself occupied. I’ve read every single review, piece of news, preview and feature I could find without spoiling the main suprises.

1 hour and 25 minutes left for me to wait, and wait I will. Oh, and I bought a new car today. A Mini One, incase you were wondering. 1 hour 24 minutes to go. Right, I’m ending this now. See you on the otherside, if I can tear myself away from my new toy for long enough!
